SCHOOL OF TOURISM AND MARITIME TECHNOLOGY

The School of Tourism and Maritime Technology (ESTM) is located in Peniche, Portugal, facing the Atlantic Ocean. At only one hour by car from Lisbon, ESTM is a privileged place to study, having the Berlengas Biosphere Reserve as a landscape, with beautiful sandy beaches and many diving and surf spots in the vicinity. ESTM is a public school of higher education with a strong connection to the community and presently it has 3 undergraduate (Marine Biology and Biotechnology, Biotechnology and Food Engineer) and 2 master degrees (Biotechnology of Marine Resources, Aquaculture and Master in Food Safety and Quality Management) clearly related to the Marine Resources.

PENICHE

Peniche is located on the coast of the western region approximately 90 km from Lisbon. The council has rich Historical and Cultural Heritage, excellent beaches and is known for its outstanding natural beauty, delicious gastronomy based on fish and world class surf destination. Peniche has several of the most famous beaches in Portugal such as Baleal and SuperTubos that are much sought after by surfing enthusiasts and Consolação beach that is known for its medicinal properties. One of the major interest spots of Peniche is the Berlenga islands, recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. This paradisiacal place that is Nature Reserve is the most important stopover and refuge point of seabirds on the Iberian Peninsula. More than the high botanical interest of the two endemic species and more than dozen species that are rarely found in Portugal, the surrounding waters support thousands of marine species with high scientific, commercial and recreational interest.
